Martial Arts Training
A common misconception people have is to assume you have to go to a studio or dojo for martial arts training, and quite a few instructors would have you believe this as well. But that's not actually true, and you can find several places that offer online martial arts training at a fraction of the cost of usual courses, that will allow you to learn self defense from home, as well as increase your fitness level, self discipline, and learn the spiritual elements behind most mixed martial arts training.
What you will need to begin your path is an online martial arts training video, or program. Some websites will offer extensive courses that can be done through streaming video, or you can buy a set from almost any martial arts store. You can also buy martial arts training equipment that you will need in the beginning, although the items you buy will likely change as you become more advanced, so only get what the video or course instructs you to.
Martial arts training gear isn't all you will need, although it's the easiest part. You will also need quite a bit of dedication and perseverance to follow this new path, as you won't have an instructor to push you when things get tough, and they will, as they do for everyone at some point. Move slowly, at your own pace, and never try to rush yourself. Remember that you have only yourself to be accountable to, and that going to far too fast will only cause you to fall.
Once you have begun to learn the basics, and even as you enter into more intermediate training, you may want to find a martial arts group to join. This is specifically to find a sparring partner, someone to challenge, and who will challenge you. One of the most important parts of any martial arts course is to eventually test yourself against an opponent, and as most beginners courses through you into this immediately, working your training online will leave you a little behind in this regard. But don't worry, you will soon catch up, and having worked along at your own pace will have allowed you to increase your skills beyond that of many your peers, evening the footing a bit.
